9 Tips for a Good Coffee in New York: For All Coffee Lovers

New York City is known as the city that never sleeps. And what does a city like that need? A lot of coffee, of course, which should ideally also be good. We’ll tell you our tips here.

Saltwater Coffee

 Address: 345 E 12th St, New York, NY 10003

The Saltwater Coffee in East Village is a small but cozy café in the East Village. The place is particularly suitable for leaving the “NYC buzz” in the Australia-inspired coffee shop outside for a short time. Saltwater gets the beans for its coffee from friends at the roasting boutique “The Little Marionette” in Sydney. Of course, we had to try a flat white made from the “Espresso House Blend” beans, if the coffee beans are already roasted in Australia, you almost have to use a flat white, right?

Ludlow Coffee Supply

Address: 176 Ludlow St, New York, NY 10002

In the East Village, there is also another particularly nice café, namely the Ludlow Coffee Supply. The espresso blend for our cappuccino was roasted nearby, in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Not only was the coffee delicious, but the “Smashed Avocado Bread” is also highly recommended. If you prefer something sweet to go with your coffee, the Ludlow Coffee Supply offers many different options – some of which are also vegan.

Ninth Street Espresso

Address: 75 9th Ave, New York, NY 10011

Ninth Street Espresso now has six locations in the Big Apple. One of them is located in the hip Chelsea Market and is perfect when you either need a short break from shopping or a coffee to go to continue shopping with more energy. In 2001 the beans were still sourced from specialty roasters, so in 2013 they decided to roast their coffee themselves, which they have been doing very close to the Chelsea Market since 2016.

Butler Bake Shop and Espresso Bar

Address: 95 S 5th St, Brooklyn, NY 11249, USA

Butler Bake Shop and Espresso Bar was – thanks to the view of the Williamsburg Bridge – the “most instagrammable” spot of all the coffee shops we have visited there. The beans for our cappuccino are not roasted by Butler himself, but by Intelligentsia, but the coffee definitely tastes good. The espresso blend for my cappuccino was slightly sweet, with flavors of roasted pecans, dark chocolate, and a bit of caramel.

By the way, there is also a large selection of breakfast, lunch, and dessert variations as well as pastries that are prepared by a pastry chef who has even been awarded a Michelin star.

Two Hands

Address: 164 Mott St, New York, NY 10013, USA

If we had to describe the Two Hands in SoHo in one sentence, we would say: small, but great! We were lucky enough to get a table because apparently, it’s difficult or impossible if you come after 10 a.m. Apparently, fate had meant well with us, otherwise, we would probably never have enjoyed the best breakfast of all times. Aside from a good cappuccino, delicious avo toast with poached egg, and roasted sweet potatoes, there was also banana bread with espresso and mascarpone topping, roasted buckwheat, and honey. And is your mouth watering right now?

Joe Coffee Company

Address: 141 Waverly Pl, New York, NY 10014, USA

The Joe Coffee Company can be found in a number of locations in New York City – 15 locations to be precise. We were in the West Village, where we had a cappuccino made from Colombian specialty coffee beans. It tasted sweet and fruity: a mixture of fig, dark chocolate, and espresso. Note: very recommendable.

Blue Bottle Coffee

Address: 2 Astor Pl, New York, NY 10003

Of course, we also had to make a detour to an offshoot of Blue Bottle Coffee. We visited the Astor Place location in this case. In addition to the cappuccino, you will also find a comprehensive selection of iced drinks, consisting of iced coffee, Cascada frizz, and more, but there are also sweet little treats such as croissants.

Birch Coffee

Address: 134 1/2 E 62nd St, New York, NY 10065, USA

We happened to walk past Birch Coffee because the café is near Central Park. From the outside, it was very inviting, which is why we walked in. The beans for our delicious, sweet-balanced cappuccino came from Central and South America and Indonesia. At Birch, you can not only enjoy good coffee but also eat delicious donuts.

Bluestone Lane

Address: 51 Astor Place, New York, NY 10003

Bluestone Lane is a cool, Australian coffee shop chain that also roasts its own coffee. In our flat white there were the finest beans from the Maverick espresso blend, which is also the Bluestone signature espresso blend. The interior is kept very clean but is very inviting. If you want to enjoy a little Aussie feeling in New York, this is definitely the place for you.
