Central Park is not only New York’s most popular, but also the largest park. There is a lot for you to discover and experience on around 340 hectares of the parking area.
We prefer to explore Central Park by bike
There is a great variety of tours in Central Park. Our favorite, however, is quite simply a bike tour! There is a really great bike path that leads through the entire park and allows you to explore the huge area much easier than on foot. You have the choice of renting a bike and cycling on your own or taking a guided bike tour through Central Park.
Information about bike rental in Central Park: Finding a bike rental shop near Central Park should be easy from any direction. Citi Bike alone has over 20 stations around the park. However, it can of course happen that bicycles are no longer available when you arrive. Therefore, it is best to reserve your bike in advance for collection at the park. This is definitely the easiest way to get a bike guaranteed. The price includes a bike, helmet, and lock.
On the circular path through the park, there is only one direction of travel for bicycles, counterclockwise. So you can’t just turn around and drive back! There are of course a few shortcuts if you don’t want to drive the entire circular route.
The Great Lawn is a great place to relax or have a picnic
“Big lawn” – that may not sound very spectacular, but the Great Lawn is actually one of the most famous lawns in the world. And of course not without reason. With a size of 55 hectares, it lives up to its name.
The bright green meadow is a wonderful spot to relax in Central Park after a long walk, have a picnic, and soak up the sun. For the athletes among you, there are even some baseball pitches on the oval green area.
The Great Lawn is not only famous for its size and beauty but above all for the legendary and free Central Park concerts. After all, Simon & Garfunkel, Diana Ross, and Bon Jovi have already given unforgettable concerts to over 100,000 people on the green lawn. If you are in Central Park, you should have a look at the huge meadow at least once and even experience a free concert there yourself.
The meadow is open from mid-April to mid-November and closed in the winter months. Then the Great Lawn is definitely one of the highlights of Central Park in summer.

Rowboats on Central Park Lake
Another highlight is boating in the middle of Manhattan on Central Park Lake. You can borrow the rowing boats from the Loeb Boathouse and then cruise around comfortably on the lake.
The boats can accommodate up to four people, and children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Boating in Central Park is fun for families as well as a romantic experience for couples. Make sure you take enough drinks and, above all, sunscreen with you in summer.
If you don’t want to row yourself, you can also take a classic Venetian gondola and experience a romantic touch of Venice in New York. A gondola tour with up to six people costs $ 45 per half hour.

For a special restaurant experience in the middle of the park, we recommend the Lakeside Restaurant directly at the Loeb Boathouse.
The restaurant impresses not only with the delicious dishes but above all with the pretty terrace directly on Central Park Lake and the great view of the water and the romantic rowing boats. This makes the Loeb Boathouse clearly the nicest place to fortify yourself after exploring Central Park.

The special setting is of course also reflected in the restaurant prices. Alternatively, instead of the restaurant, you can also choose the adjacent Express Cafe. The free concerts take place in different parks in New York, but what we find most impressive is the atmosphere in Central Park. There have been free concerts there for more than 50 years and they really are an unforgettable experience.
Just imagine how you are standing in the middle of the green of this metropolis with thousands of other expectant people, the sun slowly setting behind the skyscrapers and enveloping your surroundings in golden light. When the orchestra starts playing, goosebumps are guaranteed.
