Manhattan

The kitchen at Delmonico’s in Lower Manhattan has been producing new creations since the restaurant opened in 1837, such as the poached Eggs Benedict; the lobster Newburgh (lobster in cream sauce); Extra thick “Delmonico” steaks and a Baked Alaska (ice cream in a soufflated meringue coating) for dessert.

Brooklyn

It is thanks to George Lelonde, a resourceful local fishing guide, and his wife, Sophia, that anglers and visitors to the Thousand Islands and Clayton Resort first enjoyed the now legendary Thousand Island dressing at the beginning of the 20th century. Allegedly, George provided the anglers in the area with both fishing tips and the delicious sauce his wife made at home. There are other stories about how the dressing was made, but that doesn’t change the fact that a green salad with the creamy salad sauce tastes particularly good on the Thousand Islands.

Ithaca
