The northern part of Queens is full of sights and is, therefore, a destination for one or two New York vacationers. Many of you probably know the scene from the comedy series “King of Queens” when Doug and Carrie sit in front of the Unisphere in Flushing Meadows-Corona Park or order ice cream in Queens most famous ice cream parlor, the Lemon Ice King.
There is one joke about Miles Davis. It is said that at a reception at the American White House, President Ronald Reagan’s wife Nancy asked Davis what he had done in life. “I’ve changed the music five or six times,” he replied. “What have you done besides [making love] to the president?”
The famous Lincoln Center is undisputedly the cultural hotspot of New York. Even if you don’t have tickets for an upcoming event, you have to stop by when visiting this city that never sleeps! There is always something going on. The Lincoln Center consists of several theaters and concert halls; this is where the world-famous Metropolitan Opera is located. Eleven famous New York cultural and music organizations have their address in Lincoln Center.
The area of present-day Harlem was once inhabited by Dutch farmers, and until the early 19th-century Dutch cattle were grazed and Dutch cheeses were brewed. Over time, the land gave up all its juices, the Dutch farmers abandoned it, and in place of the pastures the apartment buildings grew, which the owners did not hurry to occupy – the area was still on the outskirts. Soon after, housing prices in Harlem fell and houses were finally found to be owned by black people, not only from other parts of New York but also from southern America and the Caribbean.
