Manhattan

Entrance to the traditional Delmonico‘s restaurant in New York City

Manhattan has the best Jewish specialties in the country. Here you can fill your stomach with matzo dumpling soup, gigantic pastrami sandwiches, and gold-colored potato pancakes, for example at Katz’s, 2nd Ave. Deli and Sarge’s. A tasty and healthy alternative: a Waldorf salad with crunchy apples and walnuts in the Waldorf-Astoria – in this traditional hotel the worldwide customer was served for the first time over a century ago.

The kitchen at Delmonico’s in Lower Manhattan has been producing new creations since the restaurant opened in 1837, such as the poached Eggs Benedict; the lobster Newburgh (lobster in cream sauce); Extra thick “Delmonico” steaks and a Baked Alaska (ice cream in a soufflated meringue coating) for dessert.

Brooklyn

The takeaways in Brooklyn and Manhattan serve classic New York-style pizza: thin crust, little tomato sauce, and lots of cheese. It is eaten folded out of the hand.

If you’re in Brooklyn, don’t miss out on another New York specialty and try the cheesecake at Junior’s. Delicious desserts with fruit puree of your choice have been served here since 1950.

Clayton

It is thanks to George Lelonde, a resourceful local fishing guide, and his wife, Sophia, that anglers and visitors to the Thousand Islands and Clayton Resort first enjoyed the now legendary Thousand Island dressing at the beginning of the 20th century. Allegedly, George provided the anglers in the area with both fishing tips and the delicious sauce his wife made at home. There are other stories about how the dressing was made, but that doesn’t change the fact that a green salad with the creamy salad sauce tastes particularly good on the Thousand Islands.
