BUSINESS WIRE – The world’s largest New Year’s Eve party returns to the metaverse this year with the re-launch of VNYE, an immersive virtual experience set at the epicenter of New Year’s Eve night in Times Square. With the help of the VNYE app and website, people from around the world can explore the virtual world of Times Square, play games and watch New Year’s Eve celebrations live in Times Square and around the world.
Jamestown owns One Times Square, where the New Year’s Eve Ball Lowering ceremony is held in New York City. The company launched VNYE last year as a new way to celebrate New Year’s Eve with a pandemic and cancellation of a mass gathering. In 2021, VNYE reached more than 3.7 million people worldwide.
«We created VNYE to enhance the atmosphere of New Year’s Eve and keep the world connected to Times Square when physical access to this place was limited», said Michael Phillips, president of Jamestown. – «In the new version of VNYE will complement the atmosphere of a live holiday and will become itself a destination – an immersive virtual world where people from all over the world can gather to celebrate the New Year».
«New Year’s Eve in Times Square is a global holiday that unites the world, as we all say goodbye to the past year and look forward to the coming year», said Tom Harris, President of Times Square Alliance. «Jamestown has deepened this connection with the help of innovative VNYE technology, allowing people from all over the world to participate in Times Square and this cult holiday in ways we didn’t even know about».
In the VNYE metaverse, users can create personalized avatars, explore Times Square, collect confetti to earn points for additional account settings, and visit the One Times Square viewing platform to see the Times virtual world top square.
Within One Times Square, users can discover three unique and exciting games: Dance World, where users demonstrate their dance skills; Nature World, where users can admire a variety of landscapes and participate in confetti hunting to collect pieces of the legendary New Year’s Ball; and Zero-G, where users can travel around the world with slides, visiting many of the world’s attractions and earning bonuses and points along the way.
As of December 31, 2021, users will be able to choose from 11 live feeds on Times Square and seven live feeds on EarthCam from around the world, including Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and Budapest, Hungary.
At midnight on New Year’s Eve, users can meet New Year’s Eve in the metaverse of Times Square with a virtual holiday of dropping the ball and fireworks.
The VNYE application will be available for download from December 18, 2021, and live from December 31, 2021.
