In the National Geographic Encounter: Ocean Odyssey you can truly escape from the hustle and bustle of Times Square – without getting wet! Embark with us on a fascinating underwater journey into the depths of the Pacific Ocean in the heart of New York.
Sea creatures are everywhere
Located in the heart of Manhattan, the National Geographic Encounter takes you on a journey through the Pacific and introduces you to different sea creatures along the way.

The adventure begins with a guided tour of different areas of the ocean and ends with free time to explore the underwater world at your own pace. Your guide will first lead your group of less than 30 people through the different areas and give you all the important insights. Questions are of course always welcome.
From each floor-to-ceiling underwater world to the next, you will dive deeper and deeper into the Pacific Ocean until you finally reach the US West Coast. You will not only experience aquarium worlds, but also interactive 3D animations, haunting audio recordings, a fun mirror labyrinth and much more.
When you get to the last room, the guided portion of the experience is over. Then you can freely explore the Ocean Odyssey and test your knowledge of the ocean. You can stay as long as you like!

The first thing that struck us about the National Geographic Encounter was the innovative technology used in its design. This makes the exhibitions not only interesting, but also incredibly interactive.
With the general trend towards more interactive experiences, Ocean Odyssey certainly sets an impressive benchmark in this respect. Each new room is completely different in structure and design, so you’ll always be excited for the next experience. You really feel like you are in an underwater world.
We particularly liked the fact that it is educational and entertaining at the same time. This makes it a wonderful activity for families in New York. Most of the visitors were also families with children, but this experience is really something for young and old and therefore for almost every traveller.
You can also take impressive photos indoors, but be sure to turn off the flash! The entire facility is bathed in blue light to enhance the underwater effect.
