New York City is a shopper’s paradise par excellence. When it comes to outlets, however, you always had to put up with a bus or car journeys of up to 60 minutes. This is now over. Since May 2019, you can easily reach the outlet by ferry in 25 minutes.
After almost 7 years of planning, construction phases, and several construction stops, the Empire Outlets in Staten Island finally opened. A bonus for the Staten Island area, as more tourists are sure to come to the forgotten borough of New York. The Empire Outlets are located directly at the Staten Island Ferry Terminal. The news outlet was able to record an impressive 165,000 shopping-happy visitors on the first opening weekend.
The Empire Outlets
The Empire Outlets have a lot of mainstream stores like H&M, GAP, True Religion, and many more. Unfortunately, when we were allowed to visit the outlet on Staten Island, some shops were still closed. Here is an excerpt of the list of the 100 stores you can visit at Empire Outlets on Staten Island:
These are just a few examples of all the stores that can be seen at Empire Outlet on Staten Island. Now, however, the question arises as to what is so special about outlet stores. And why do we keep recommending outlet shopping when you’re in New York?
On the one hand, you will, of course, find much cheaper prices in an outlet than in a regular store. Sometimes your favorite item costs up to 50% less. That’s why we definitely recommend you to come and shop on Staten Island. The prices are simply much more attractive than in overpriced Manhattan. So you can now list Staten Island as a shopping destination right next to SoHo, 5th Avenue, and the Meatpacking District.
Of course, the selection of restaurants in an outlet is huge. Enjoy:
As the expansion continues, more restaurants will be added to the Empire Outlets. Here you can find a list of all restaurants.
Outlets are generally cheaper because they sell products that may have been overproduced and didn’t sell well in the regular store, for example in Manhattan.
However, there are also companies in the retail industry that manufacture products specifically for outlets. Small details such as zips, buttons, or branding are then specifically changed in order to distinguish them from the rest of the products.
The best way to get to the Empire Outlets is to take the Staten Island Ferry. You can be there in 25 minutes and you don’t even have to pay a cent for it. The trip to Staten Island to the Empire Outlets is free.
Catch a glimpse of the Statue of Liberty and admire the skyline of Lower Manhattan on the way to Staten Island. As soon as you leave the Ferry Terminal on Staten Island, you are right at the Empire Outlets.
